Diwali has always been more than just the festival of lights. For those of us who grew up in India, it was the extra-long school holidays, the smell of freshly painted homes, the joy of slipping into brand-new clothes, the sparkle of festive decorations brightening every corner, and the thrill of sharing endless mithai and chaat with friends and neighbours. Most of all, it was about coming together—family, friends, and communities lighting up homes and hearts alike.

At Veranda Indian, our dream has always been to recreate that sense of connection here in Australia—for children who’ve never experienced the magic of Diwali back home, and for those of us who miss it deeply. This festival is our chance to pass on traditions, stories, flavours and the joy of festive decorations to the next generation, keeping them alive and vibrant.

This year, we’re proud to collaborate with our friends at Meher Maison, known for their stunning Indian festive decorations, to bring you a very special afternoon:

📅 Saturday, 4th October
🕐 12:30 PM – 4:00 PM
$40 per adult & $20 per kids under 12 (Includes a craft kit of $25 RRP).

Here’s what awaits you:

• DIY Diwali Craft Workshop – Kids will get hands-on with making Diwali decorations, just as we once did with our elders, filling homes with colour, creativity, and memories. All supplies are provided.

• Chaat Bhandaar – A spread of street-style favourites, made the Veranda way.

• Halwa Puri– A nostalgic Diwali must-have, prepared with love and tradition.

Come relive the memories of festivals from back home and create new ones with your little ones. This Diwali, let’s light up not just our verandas, but also hearts across generations.
